Coronation Street Legend Bill Roache Admits He Rarely Sees Co-Stars Outside of Work
Bill Roache has revealed that despite spending decades on Coronation Street, he rarely socializes with his fellow cast members away from the set.
The 94-year-old soap icon, who has portrayed Ken Barlow since the very first episode aired in 1960, opened up about his relationships with co-stars during an appearance on the Session 7 – Interesting Lives podcast.
Bill Roache Says He Keeps Work and Social Life Separate

Speaking honestly about life behind the scenes at Coronation Street, Bill Roache explained that he does not regularly meet up with castmates outside of filming.
The actor admitted he has occasionally been closer to certain colleagues over the years, including Chris Gascoyne, but generally keeps his friendships within the workplace professional.
Interestingly, Roache said he often feels more connected to members of the makeup and wardrobe departments than to some actors on the show.
According to the TV legend, the cast still come together during Christmas parties and work events, but socializing outside the soap is uncommon for him.

Roache also spoke about his long-standing working relationship with Barbara Knox, who has appeared on the soap since 1964.
Although the two stars have worked alongside each other for decades, Bill explained that their relationship has always remained respectful rather than deeply social.
He described Barbara Knox as a “wonderful person” and praised her honesty and strong personality. However, he admitted they have never spent time together socially outside of work despite sharing the screen for generations.
Coronation Street Star Still Has No Plans to Retire
Despite being 94 years old, Bill Roache insists he has no intention of slowing down anytime soon.
The actor currently holds the Guinness World Record for the longest-serving TV actor in a continuous role and previously revealed he hopes to continue playing Ken Barlow until he turns 100.
During a previous appearance on Love Your Weekend, Roache shared his positive outlook on ageing and encouraged people to keep active and continue doing what they love.
He explained that many people view ageing as a reason to slow down, but he strongly disagrees. In fact, the veteran actor even revealed he planned to do a parachute jump, proving his adventurous spirit remains intact.
