It appears that Casualty fans are far from pleased with the latest developments.

On Saturday night (April 25), the BBC soap broadcast the first episode of its new boxset Lethal Legacy, a week after the heartbreaking death and funeral of Kim Chang (played by Jasmine Bayes).

As Stevie Nash (Elinor Lawless) and Matty Linlaker (Aron Julius) grapple with their grief and guilt over their co-star’s death, tensions between the pair rapidly spiral out of control.

While Matty told Stevie that if she ever needed to speak, he was there, she snapped: “About what? What wisdom could you possibly offer me Matty? You are a barely competent junior who couldn’t be left alone with a patient for five minutes.”

With both trading sharp words as Stevie attempted to get into her car, Matty fired back: “I know you’re hurting, I’m hurting too. Except I’m not taking it out on everybody else.”

“Or is that what you’re trying to do, you’re trying to push everybody away cause you don’t wanna know the truth?”

Hitting back at his comment, Stevie warned Matty against psychoanalysing her, insisting she was thoroughly fed up with people telling her Kim’s death was not her fault, reports the Mirror.

Matty swiped: “Yeah, well, it is ok?” As she shoved him away, Stevie yelled that she knew it was her fault.

As the atmosphere reached boiling point, he pushed her against an ambulance and the pair shared a passionate kiss, much to the dismay of viewers, who were quick to make their feelings known.

One person said: “Can the writers stop doing this to Stevie! Sorry, but not feeling it, plus this is going to completely screw up Dylan big time, especially as he opens up to Stevie.”

Another wrote: “Honestly, the worst storyline they could’ve run with.” Someone else shared: “I’m sorry, but I don’t see this ending very well!”

One fan reeled: “This was just awful. Why…. WHY?!” As another commented: “NO STEVIE ANYONE BUT HIM.”

Though some viewers are delighted by the unexpected turn between the two characters, with one person saying: “I mean I don’t want to like it, but I kinda do.”

As another wrote: “I knew that Stevie and Matty were going to kiss at the end, which I thought I’d hate, but their conversation and the way it played out, I could be on board if this turns into a relationship!”

Given that Matty is the estranged son of Stevie’s close friend Dylan Keogh (William Beck), how will he respond to this new development?
