Casualty kicks off shock new Stevie and Matty story in early iPlayer release

Casualty spoilers follow for Saturday’s episode (25 April), which is available to watch now on streaming service BBC iPlayer and hasn’t yet aired on TV. This article contains storyline details that some viewers may prefer to avoid.

Casualty has kicked off an unexpected new storyline involving Stevie Nash and Matty Linlaker. The pair have faced a difficult time recently, with resident doctor Kim Chang dying from health issues related to her eating disorder in the dramatic finale to the last boxset last week.

With the new boxset, ‘Lethal Legacy’, beginning nearly a week after Kim’s funeral, Stevie and Matty were both struggling with grief and with the guilt surrounding the death of their mentee and colleague.

As the ED tackled a mystery illness, Flynn checked in with Stevie, concerned that she hasn’t taken up welfare’s suggestion of online therapy sessions. Meanwhile, Matty had other problems to deal with, setting up a meeting with his parents, Sarah and Dylan.

It was clear that Stevie was deeply affected by what happened to Kim when she found the order of service for her funeral in her locker. She was thrown into work, however, when she was forced to carry out a risky procedure on a patient.

When there was a blackout in the hospital, Stevie had to continue in the dark. While she snapped at Matty when he tried to provide her with light, he realised that Stevie was clearly in pain.

Later, Matty managed to translate the words of a patient who didn’t speak English, but he phoned Stevie as she’d asked when their condition began to deteriorate. However, Stevie missed his calls, as she decided to try a therapy session while on her break.

Stevie returned to resus, furious with Matty that she hadn’t been notified about the change in the patient. But when she checked her phone, she realised that she was wrong and had raged at Matty for no reason.

That evening, Matty confronted Stevie and reached out if she ever wanted to talk about Kim. She snapped at him again, but as the situation escalated, they both admitted that they feel guilty about her death.

In the ED, Dylan phoned Sarah and said that he wanted to be honest with people about Matty being his son and promised that he will always take care him at work. But meanwhile, Stevie and Matty started kissing passionately outside.

What does this kiss mean for Stevie and Matty, and will Dylan find out about their shock passion?
