Actor Shares Health Update After Hospital Visit

Coronation Street's Beverley Callard shares health update after doctors express concern

Former Coronation Street star Beverley Callard has provided fans with a candid update on her ongoing battle with breast cancer following a recent hospital appointment. Best known for her iconic portrayal of Liz McDonald on the long-running ITV soap, Callard revealed that she will soon begin radiotherapy, although doctors noted the treatment should ideally have started earlier.

In an Instagram video, Callard explained the slight delay:

“Well I went to the hospital today at quarter past 3, and they all seemed very nice, obviously they’re new to me. They are a little concerned because they think I should’ve started the radiotherapy before now. But of course because we moved house, it took a while for my records, my medical records, to come from England to Ireland etc, but they’ve all arrived.”

Callard also shared that she will return to the hospital for further consultations with doctors before commencing treatment:

“I’ve got to go back on Thursday morning to see some more doctors and medical people and then they will begin it soon. So it went okay, it went okay.”

Relocating For Work And Continued Filming

The actor relocated to Ireland to join the cast of the long-running soap Fair City. She previously revealed that she received her breast cancer diagnosis via phone call while in her dressing room on set. Despite her health challenges, Callard has remained committed to her professional work and openly discussed the balancing act of managing treatment alongside filming commitments.

Reflections On Coronation Street And Potential Return

Speculation about a potential Coronation Street return has resurfaced recently, especially after the show revealed that Jim McDonald, Liz’s on-screen husband, had been killed off-screen and fathered a child through an affair. Callard commented on the possibility:

“I can’t now because I’m filming something else but I think you should never say never.”

She reflected on her decision to leave the soap, citing both storylines and workload:

“I felt Liz lacked storylines, and I couldn’t deal with ‘all day, every day’ workload. Overall though, I loved my time there, you don’t stay in something for 32 years if you didn’t love it.”

Beverley Callard’s tenure as Liz McDonald remains one of the most celebrated on Coronation Street, with her nuanced performances earning her a devoted fan base.
