Emmerdale favourites have swapped the Dales for the skies as several cast members faced their fears and took part in a daring wing walking challenge to raise vital funds for Cure Usher — a charity with a deeply personal connection to the soap family.

The incredible fundraising event saw Emmerdale stars Bradley Riches, Jack Downham, Lawrence Robb, and Matthew Wolfenden join their co-star Mark Jordon for an unforgettable aviation experience, all in support of a cause that has become extremely important to those involved.

With courage, teamwork, and plenty of nerves before take-off, the group stepped onto the wings of a moving aircraft to help raise awareness and money for Usher Syndrome, a rare genetic condition that affects hearing and vision.

The event brought together members of the Emmerdale cast, charity supporters, and families affected by the condition for a day filled with emotion, bravery, and unforgettable memories.

Emmerdale Cast Face Their Fears For A Special Cause

The sponsored wing walk brought together twelve brave participants, including four familiar Emmerdale faces who were ready to take on the challenge.

Speaking about the event, Mark Jordon explained that the group included people from different backgrounds, all united by their commitment to Cure Usher.

“There were twelve of us in total doing the wing walk,” Mark revealed.

Among the participants were supporters who had travelled from Denmark after their child was recently diagnosed with Usher Syndrome, as well as individuals living with the condition and people who use cochlear implants.

The Emmerdale stars were joined by three cochlear implant users and two people directly affected by Usher Syndrome, making the event even more meaningful.

Co-stars Laura Norton and Katie Hill also attended to show their support from the ground, cheering on their colleagues as they prepared for the unusual challenge.

What Is Usher Syndrome?

Usher Syndrome is a rare inherited condition that affects both hearing and vision.

The condition is divided into three main types, depending on the severity of hearing loss, the progression of vision problems, and whether balance issues are involved.

People with Usher Syndrome Type 1 often experience significant hearing loss from birth, while vision loss typically begins during childhood. Balance difficulties can also occur.

Type 2 usually involves moderate to severe hearing loss from birth, with vision problems developing later during teenage years. Unlike Type 1, balance issues are generally not present.

Type 3 is often associated with progressive hearing loss, meaning hearing may decline over time. Vision loss usually develops during adolescence or adulthood, and balance problems can vary.

For Mark Jordon and his family, the charity represents a deeply personal mission after his two young children were diagnosed with Usher Syndrome in 2023.

Since then, Mark and his partner Laura Norton have worked tirelessly to raise awareness and funds to support research and families affected by the condition.

Mark Jordon Describes The Wing Walk As A “Magical” Experience

Despite the obvious risks involved, Mark described the wing walking experience as something truly unforgettable.

The actor, known to Emmerdale viewers as Daz Spencer, explained that standing on top of the aircraft created a feeling unlike anything he had experienced before.

He described the moment as peaceful and almost surreal, saying he felt incredibly privileged to be part of the experience.

Looking down from the plane, Mark said he could see the shadow of the aircraft moving across the fields below, with his own figure visible standing on top.

Rather than feeling overwhelmed by fear, he embraced the moment by waving, moving his arms, and enjoying every second of the flight.

After landing, Mark was greeted by Laura and their children, Jesse and Ronnie, who were waiting to celebrate his achievement.

The emotional reunion left him “beaming” after completing the challenge.

Jack Downham Wanted Even More Adventure

Noah Dingle actor Jack Downham also took part in the wing walk and admitted that while he felt nervous beforehand, the experience quickly became something he wanted to repeat.

After completing his flight, Jack revealed that he had hoped to experience even more dramatic aerial action.

The actor joked that he had asked the pilot about performing loops during the flight, only to discover that those manoeuvres were reserved for a second experience.

Although disappointed that he missed out on the extra thrills, Jack was clearly excited by the challenge and eager to take part again.

Matthew Wolfenden Takes On A Dramatic Flight

Former Emmerdale star Matthew Wolfenden, who played David Metcalfe, also returned to the skies for the charity challenge.

Having previously completed a wing walk, Matthew was able to experience an even more dramatic version of the event.

His flight included impressive aerial manoeuvres, including multiple loops performed by the pilot.

From the observation deck, Mark watched as the plane climbed higher before dramatically diving and rising again.

He described seeing Matthew become a tiny figure on top of the aircraft as it performed the incredible stunts.

When Matthew landed safely, he received a huge cheer from supporters and admitted he would absolutely recommend the experience to others.

“It’s amazing,” he said, encouraging more people to take part in future Cure Usher events.
