Emmerdale spoilers: Robert on the brink of being exposed to Cain – it’ll get messy

Robert Sugden (Ryan Hawley) might want to duck for cover in Emmerdale when Cain Dingle (Jeff Hordley) finds out about his role in Moira’s (Natalie J Robb) prison ordeal as all hell is sure to break loose.

Moira spent much of this year behind bars after a shocking scheme concocted by Joe Tate (Ned Porteous), who blackmailed Robert into planting a bunch of ID cards and passports at Butlers.

The aim was to cause more trouble for Moira and her farm, which was already on the brink of financial ruin, in the hopes of acquiring the land for the Tates.

Robert felt guilt about doing so but, with Joe blackmailing him over the video he’d recorded of Victoria (Isabel Hodgins) killing murderous brother John (Oliver Farnworth) in self-defence, he felt like he had no choice.

Moira’s world subsequently fell apart when the police uncovered the ID cards on the property as it linked her to the modern slavery operation being run by Celia Daniels (Jaye Griffiths).

The beloved farmer was arrested, jailed and then charged not only with modern slavery offences but also murder after the bodies of Celia and Anya were discovered on her land.

The nightmare escalated further when she was forced to sell her farm to the Tates in a bid to help her husband Cain, who had been diagnosed with cancer.

Robert was riddled with guilt to see Moira and Cain in so much torment as a result of his actions and thus he assisted in the investigation to get Moira out of prison, successfully locating evidence that cast doubt on the charges brought against her, resulting in her being freed.

Moira has struggled to adjust to life back in the village, finding it hard to get used to the fact she no longer lives at Butlers. While Cain has joined the Dingles in starting up a new farm for her to take over, her heart still lies at Butlers and thus she was secretly assisting Robert, who has ended up running the farm she called home for over a decade.

But having Moira support him in his new venture left Rob feeling guilty and thus he confessed to his role in her plight.

Moira was seething and instructs him to hand himself in to the police. Aaron (Danny Miller), however, reckons that finding out about Robert’s role in the operation is the last thing Cain needs right now, what with his cancer operation approaching.

Despite her devastation over Robert’s betrayal, Moira ultimately sees that it’s best for everyone to keep a lid on it but, reminded that Joe is the one who is ultimately responsible for her nightmare, the farmer heads up to Home Farm with a shotgun and later tells Dawn Taylor (Olivia Bromley) all about her beau’s treachery.

But keeping quiet about what Robert did proves more stressful than Moira initially thought and, with Cain’s operation looming, her stress mounts.

Cain, meanwhile, fears how much their relationship might change after the operation but Moira assures him that they will face whatever is ahead together.

The question is: can she keep quiet about Robert’s role in her ordeal?

This is Emmerdale we’re talking about, where secrets rarely stay secret, so even if she does manage to keep shtum for now, it’s likely only a matter of time before it all comes spilling out.

And we wouldn’t like to be Robert on the day that happens!
