General Hospital legend Lynn Herring marked her 40th anniversary playing Lucy Coe on April 11.
The ABC soap pulled out all the stops to show Herring just how much she means to the show.
In an Instagram video, nearly every single cast member from General Hospital shared sweet words and messages to mark Herring’s milestone anniversary.
There were messages of love, celebration, congratulations, a song, and even a cheer for the soap icon. It was crystal clear that Herring has had just as much of an impact on her co-stars as she has had on fans over the past four decades.
After learning about the sweet video, Herring took to X to respond to all the kind and thoughtful things her General Hospital family said about her.
“What a wonderful life thanks to @GeneralHospital❣️So much love & gratitude to our amazing GH Family & our loyal, incredible GH viewers! No words for how much all your kind thoughts meant to me today🩷Thank u @valentinifrank 4 the most cherished cast video ever!🩷” she wrote on a picture of her on her farm.
The beloved actress began playing Lucy in 1986. Lucy arrived in Port Charles with the sass, style, charisma, and selfishness that make fans love the character.
Even though Herring took breaks from the ABC soap, she always went back home. The first time Herring left was after six years, when she hopped over to Days of Our Lives to play Lisanne Gardner in 1992 and worked with her husband, the late Wayne Northrop.
Herring wasn’t there very long because Lisanne was never really developed. In fact, she asked to be let out of her contract early, and the powers that be agreed.
This led the actress to return to General Hospital, where she stayed until 1997, before leaving to take Lucy to the General Hospital spin-off, Port Charles. When the latter was canceled in 2003, Herring briefly returned to General Hospital before departing again in 2004.
During her time away, Herring focused on family life with Northrop on their farm and raising their boys, Hank and Grady Northrop.
In 2009, Herring returned to acting as Audrey Coleman on As the World Turns. The CBS soap was canceled in 2010. Herring eventually returned to General Hospital again in 2012, where Lucy has stayed a regular fixture on the canvas, even if she’s not always at the forefront of the show.
Congrats to Lynn Herring on 40 years of playing the beloved fan favorite Lucy on the hit ABC soap.
