Coronation Street fans ‘devastated’ as Debbie Webster pleads with Ronnie Bailey as symptoms worsen

Debbie Webster was seen forgetting her husband, Ronnie Bailey’s, name in heartbreaking ITV soap scenes

Coronation Street fans have said they’re ‘heartbroken’ as Debbie Webster was seen forgetting her husband Ronnie Bailey’s name as her dementia symptoms continue to progress.

The beloved character recently had to serve prison time after she pleaded guilty to dangerous driving and causing the death of local vicar Billy Mayhew following a horror multi-vehicle crash that unfolded back in January.

As fans of the ITV soap know, Debbie took the blame after she was discovered in the driver’s seat, having been moved by her brother, Carl Webster, who had been driving while drunk and ploughed into the existing wreckage of a crash, including a minibus of Debbie and Ronnie’s wedding guests, driven by Billy.

When, finally, Carl admitted his guilt over the horror crash, with him thinking Debbie believed him because of her dementia, having been diagnosed last year, he soon backtracked when she actually revealed she was his mum, and not his half-sibling as he had grown up believing, and that was why she was covering for him

The news left a bruised Carl wanting to see Debbie punished and she ended up being sentenced to two years and eight months in prison. During her time inside, Debbie’s health became a major concern as she suffered a number of Transient Ischemic Attacks (TIA), also known as a ‘mini-stroke’, and saw the symptoms of her dementia develop further.

But someone who hasn’t been helping is Carl, who has been continuing to try to get money out of his biological mother. Despite other family members, like Ronnie, trying to intervene, Carl’s still trying to get what he wants out of his mother – her money.

After he tried to force her to sign over half of the Chariot Square Hotel, Debbie saw sense and in a fit of rage, Carl caused a flood at the hotel. It resulted in an emotional Debbie sending her son on his way for the last time, having given him some cash to leave Weatherfield once and for all.

But Debbie’s goodbye could end up being permanent because, as Corrie fans also know, Carl is among the five possible victims of a murder which is set to rock the cobbles this week, after a flashforward episode back in February confirmed who could be killed, and that it’s Betsy Swain who finds the dead body.

With each episode of Corrie this week dedicated to each of the possible victims before the victim is finally revealed on Friday (May 1), on Tuesday (April 28), it was all about Carl. But there was an emotional moment for Corrie viewers, as Debbie was seen forgetting Ronnie’s name.

She begged him to tell her his name through tears and after he told her, she cried: “I’m losing it, Ronnie. I couldn’t remeber. And the more I tried, the more… How could I forget your name?” before sobbing into Ronnie’s arms.
