It feels like we may be at a crossroads on Days of Our Lives. Chanel and Johnny just got about the worst news they could have: Chanel, pregnant with their child, has an aggressive form of breast cancer. Her best treatment option — hormone therapy — is too dangerous for the baby, but even her other options carry risks.
It’s not Chanel’s first serious health crises, but it is the first where we feel that the stakes are real. We learned in January that Carson Boatman and Raven Bowens had been let go. And if we’ve got the timing right for Chanel’s pregnancy and Days of Our Lives’ shooting schedule, Chanel and Johnny could be exiting Salem shortly after the baby’s born.

But that comes with a number of caveats. First: Will the baby be OK? Chanel’s pregnancy was high risk to begin with, and now that she’s going to have to fight an aggressive breast cancer, it’s gotten even more fraught.
And then there’s the second big problem: Will Chanel be leaving Salem, or will she die? Sarah seems to have gotten through to her that the baby needs Chanel to be healthy for its own well-being, but that doesn’t mean the mom-to-be would agree to the most aggressive treatment options.
She may just agree to enough to keep her going until the baby’s born, only to learn after birth that it’s too late. The treatment options left aren’t working. If that happened, we’re sure Johnny would go knocking on his dad’s door to use his miracle treatment — but we’ve got a feeling this will all be over by then. And if we’re right, the Lexie saga won’t end with a permanent way to reverse death. It may be too late for Chanel.

There’s still a chance, of course, that everything will go well, and Chanel, Johnny, Trey and their new baby leave Salem to live a happy, long life off-screen. But this could be setting Chanel up for one last, heart-wrenching story, as she gives birth to her and Johnny’s child and passes on. And Johnny leaves Salem with the kids, devastated, and wanting nothing more to do with Salem and its pain.
We may be at a crossroads, but one way or another, it seems like this story is the beginning of the end of Johnny and Chanel.
