Coronation Street favourite Jane Danson has delighted fans after sharing a rare and emotional glimpse into her family life, posting an adorable throwback baby photo to celebrate a major milestone for her eldest son.

The actress, best known for playing Leanne Battersby on the ITV soap, was flooded with messages from fans and co-stars after marking Harry’s 20th birthday with a touching tribute.

While Jane is a familiar face to millions of viewers through her decades on the cobbles, the actress has always kept her personal life relatively private. However, she made an exception to celebrate an important moment for her family.

Jane Danson Celebrates A Special Family Milestone

Taking to Instagram, Jane shared a sweet photograph from Harry’s early childhood, showing a loving moment between mother and son.

Alongside the emotional image, she wrote:

Happy 20th birthday to my darling Harry. I can’t believe 20 years have flown by. Super proud of the man you have become. Never change.

The heartfelt message immediately attracted attention from fans who have followed Jane’s career for nearly three decades.

Many praised the actress for sharing such a personal memory, while others commented on how quickly time had passed since she welcomed her first child.

For Jane, the milestone marked not only her son’s birthday but also a reflection on two decades of motherhood away from the drama of Weatherfield.

The warm response highlighted the close relationship between Jane and her fellow Coronation Street stars both on and off screen.

Nearly 30 Years As Leanne Battersby

Jane Danson first joined Coronation Street in 1997 at just 17 years old, becoming part of one of the soap’s most memorable family arrivals.

Leanne Battersby arrived in Weatherfield alongside her father Les Battersby, stepmother Janice Battersby, and stepsister Toyah Battersby.

The Battersbys quickly became known for bringing a new energy to the cobbles, with their outspoken personalities and dramatic storylines making them unforgettable additions to the show.

Over almost three decades, Jane has taken Leanne through some of the soap’s most emotional and challenging plots.

One of the most heartbreaking moments came when Leanne lost her young son Oliver, who tragically died in 2020 after being diagnosed with mitochondrial disease.

The storyline received widespread praise for its emotional depth, with Jane’s performance earning admiration from viewers.

Leanne has also been involved in darker storylines, including her involvement with The Institute, where she became caught up in a controversial storyline involving manipulation and control.

Jane’s Life Away From The Cobbles

Outside Weatherfield, Jane has built a strong family life with husband Robert Beck.

The couple have been together for more than two decades after their friendship developed into romance.

Robert is also a familiar face to soap fans, having appeared in shows including Brookside, Emmerdale, and Waterloo Road.

He later joined Hollyoaks as Fergus Collins and also appeared in a dramatic storyline in Emmerdale.

Jane and Robert married in 2005 before welcoming Harry in 2006 and their second son Sam in 2009.

Although both parents work in the entertainment industry, Jane has often spoken about allowing her children to make their own choices rather than pushing them toward acting.

Jane Opens Up About Her Sons’ Futures

Coronation Street fans call out huge blunder with Leanne Battersby's cult storyline

During an appearance on Loose Women in 2025, Jane spoke about whether her sons might follow her into acting.

She explained that her eldest son Harry had shown interest in the creative industry but preferred working behind the scenes.

She said:

My eldest is studying media so he likes the behind the scenes. My youngest, I’m not so sure. He’s got a little something about the acting thing but he’s a bit too cool at the moment.

Jane admitted that acting can be a difficult career path and said she wanted her children to choose whatever made them happy.

She added:

It’s a really brutal industry as we all know. I just think be happy, do whatever is right for you. I’m not going to push him either way.

The actress also reflected on the emotional challenge of watching Harry leave home for university.

She admitted that after spending 18 years focused on caring for her son, adjusting to his independence was difficult.

Jane said:

You spend 18 years being all about them and knowing where they are and who they’re with, then you have to let them go and have their adventures.

However, she joked that while she did not miss the household chores, she certainly missed having him around.

A Proud Moment For A Coronation Street Favourite

Jane Danson’s birthday tribute to Harry offered fans a rare look at the actress outside the world of Coronation Street.

After years of portraying Leanne Battersby through heartbreak, conflict, and unforgettable drama, the actress showed a softer side as a proud mother celebrating her son’s journey into adulthood.

With support from her co-stars and fans, Jane’s emotional tribute proved that while Weatherfield may be filled with chaos and secrets, family remains at the heart of her real-life story.
