Y&R Spoilers Monday, June 8: Matt Clark Becomes Victor’s Secret Weapon Against Cane Ashby
Victor Turns Matt Into A Newman Asset
Victor Newman is not finished playing chess in Genoa City.
On Monday’s The Young and the Restless, Victor makes a stunning move by positioning Matt Clark as his newest weapon against Cane Ashby. After Cane’s connection to the Newman Enterprises takeover, Victor wants answers, leverage, and control. Naturally, he decides the best way to get all three is by placing Matt directly in Cane’s orbit.
Victor offers Matt a place near the ranch stables, but this is no act of generosity. Keeping Matt close gives Victor power over him. It also gives him a potential spy who can get near Cane, earn his trust, and report everything back.
For Victor, this is strategy.
For Nick Newman, it is a dangerous gamble.
Nick Fears Matt Could Slip Back
Nick immediately sees the problem. Matt claims he wants redemption, but Victor is asking him to deceive someone. That is exactly the kind of manipulation tied to Matt’s darker past.
Nick worries that using Matt this way could push him back toward the man everyone fears. Matt senses it, too. At first, he refuses Victor’s request, knowing that spying on Cane is not harmless.
But Victor does not offer choices. He offers pressure.
If Matt wants to avoid being treated as an enemy of the Newman family, he has to cooperate. Victor also makes it clear that helping him could make Matt’s legal problems disappear.
That leaves Matt trapped between survival and morality.
Cane Steps Into Chancellor Trouble

While Victor plots, Cane is facing a major decision with Lily Winters.
Lily believes Cane is the right man to run Chancellor. She sees him as capable, loyal, and ready for a second chance. Cane, however, understands the risks. Devon may object. Billy Abbott may attack. And Victor may not sit quietly while Cane rises into power.
Still, Cane eventually agrees to take on the role.
For Lily, it feels like progress.
For Victor, it looks like a target.
Malcolm Issues A Warning
Malcolm Winters’ return adds emotional weight to the episode. He thanks Cane for helping save his life, making it clear that Cane’s sacrifice matters.
But Malcolm also protects Lily in his own way. He warns Cane that Lily makes her own choices, but if Cane hurts her again, there will be consequences.
It is not a threat for drama’s sake. It is a fatherly line in the sand.
Cane promises Lily that he is done hurting her, but Genoa City rarely lets promises stay simple for long.
Claire And Holden Look Toward A Softer Future
Away from Victor’s power games, Claire Newman and Holden Novak share a quieter moment at the park café.
Claire asks whether the new Shadow Room could bring up painful memories for Holden. He admits he wants to focus on building better ones instead. Their planned date for the club opening offers a lighter contrast to the growing storm around Cane and Victor.
Stephanie also receives big news: she has been offered the Chief of Staff position at Genoa City Memorial. Before accepting, she checks with Holden, who reassures her that he has forgiven her and wants her in town.
It is a small but meaningful step toward healing.
A Spy Game Begins

By the end of the episode, the real danger is clear.
Victor has turned Matt into a pawn.
Cane has accepted a powerful new position.
Nick has seen the warning signs but allows Victor’s plan to move forward.
And Lily may not realize that her choice has placed Cane directly in Victor’s sights.
The question now is whether Matt can truly make amends while being pushed into deception. Victor may believe he is controlling the board, but in Genoa City, pawns have a way of becoming wild cards.
If Matt gets close to Cane, Victor may gain the advantage.
But the cost could be far greater than anyone expects.
