Georgia Jay has reportedly stepped away from her Emmerdale role after spending less than two years on the programme.

The actress hasn’t appeared on screen since last year, having taken maternity leave following the arrival of her first child.

Her character, Steph Miligan, daughter of Ruby and Caleb, has been absent from the village since last summer.

It was anticipated that the character would make a comeback at some stage, with Georgia expected to return to the part. However, recent reports suggest that Georgia has chosen not to resume her position on the soap when her maternity leave concludes.

Sources indicate she has decided to step back from the role to prioritise motherhood, having welcomed her daughter last year. Given the demanding filming schedules and extensive hours required for soap production, this is believed to be the driving factor behind her departure from the show, at least for the time being.

An insider reportedly told The Sun: “Georgia loved her time at Emmerdale but she has no plans to return now. She’s loving being a mum and that’s her focus for now.”, reports the Mirror.

They added: “Obviously she’s open to opportunities but returning to a full-on soap schedule full-time is just not something she can do at the moment.”

Viewers have taken to social media to share their thoughts following the announcement. One fan commented: “The wonderful Georgia Jay has quit and will not be returning after her maternity leave 🙁 absolutely devastated but so thankful for everything Steph Miligan and Georgia gave us.” Another fan lamented: “Oh NO?!!! loved her character!” while a third questioned: “This is how I find out?” Leeds Live has contacted Emmerdale for comment on this story.

This comes in the wake of recent reports that another character has been axed from the soap after eight years. According to reports, Dawn Taylor is set to be written out of the show later this year.

Actress Olivia Bromley, who has been part of the Emmerdale cast since 2018, is reportedly set to leave after being written out of the storyline. It’s alleged that bosses feel they have “done all they can” with the character, though neither the soap nor Olivia herself have yet responded to the claims.

An insider revealed: “Olivia is adored by everyone at Emmerdale so the decision to axe her has not gone down well at all. She’s a popular member of the cast and if they can get rid of Olivia then the feeling is virtually no-one is safe.”

They continued: “Olivia understood their decision and is preparing to film her exit in the coming months.” It is believed that her final scenes will be filmed before the end of the year.
